The Doradillo, home of the southern right whale!

The beaches of El Doradillo are a true paradise, so much so that they have become home to the southern right whale. These majestic mammals have chosen this southern coast as the perfect place to reproduce and feed their young. This is how this site –close to Puerto Madryn– gives us one of the best whale watching without having to board a boat!

Indeed! The physiognomy of these beaches allows us to observe these specimens just a few meters away from the shore. The show is unprecedented. You will delight in their movements, the typical V-shaped blows when they breathe, the sound of their fin blows, the tail and not to mention the mothers sailing with their young. All this, parallel to the coast.

Without a doubt, a must for nature lovers visiting the Patagonian region. We are talking about a Protected Area –as stated in 2001– where you will live the best of experiences with the perfect combination of ecology and adventure.

The important thing is to know when to visit El Doradillo. Whale watching does not occur in any season, but between the months of June to October, when these cetaceans visit the place. Don’t worry, there’s a perfect excursion for this activity, the best thing being that you can take advantage of every minute of your time and have the accompaniment of experts.

DORADILLO ADVENTURE THE EXCURSION!

The Doradillo Aventure is an excursion that will take you to these beaches at the right time. In fact, it operates only during whale season on the shores. Keep it in mind, it’s a unique sighting in the world!

The adventure begins in Puerto Madryn from where we depart aboard Land Rover vans, heading to the north. We are talking about a route of 15 km until we reach the beaches, where the activity begins with an ascent of very few meters.

No biggie! It’s a trekking of just a km and 0 difficulty, suitable for all kinds of people (in case you do not want to do it, you can wait for the group in the vehicle with their driver). The idea is to start the sighting from the top of the bard which gives us a special panorama. Groups of whales intertwine with birds, colors and sounds for a nice setting.

The walk that takes place in a line will take us to Punta Flecha, where we will visit the Beacon and the Permanent Observatory of the Patagonia Natural Foundation. Then, we continue to Las Canteras, where we will sit for a while to see the whales pass. This time, face to face and from a few meters.

Don’t think that’s all. While we return to the vehicles, another destination awaits us. This time, it’s a bouldering beach where we will continue to enjoy nature while sharing a delicious meal.

It can be a lunch or snack, it all depends on the time you take the tour. You have two options a day to depart on Doradillo Aventure: one at 11:00 AM that includes lunch, and another at 04:30 PM with a snack of infusions and sweets. After the picnic, we head back.

WHAT TO EAT AFTER SIGHTINGS FROM THE COAST?

As we mentioned, El Doradillo Aventure includes the food that is prepared on site while sharing a matte to regain strength. For all this, vehicles travel fully equipped with guides prepared for culinary art; simple, yet exquisite and substantial.

Lunch is a chicken with sautéed vegetables. It is cooked to the disco, with gas, and eaten in the form of a sandwich accompanied by a glass of wine, beer or flavored water. The snack includes fried cakes that are prepared on the spot and are accompanied by others such as Danish and Welsh cake, alfajores, tea, hot chocolates and other infusions.

Now yes, we are ready to return to Puerto Madryn and finish the tour that lasts around 3:30 hrs. This gives you the advantage to spend the rest of the day on another activity if you wish so.
