    •         TALAMPAYA NATIONAL PARK

Without a doubt, it is the jewel of the province. No one who goes to visit La Rioja can miss it. Talampaya National Park can be toured alone or in conjunction with Ischigualasto, in San Juan, another amazing place as well. The visit is made aboard the park’s trucks, and during the tour the famous canyon with dizzying rock walls is included. Additionally, thanks to the extensive knowledge of the guides, you will learn a lot about the particular geology of the place. •         LAGUNA BRAVA

Another must-see in La Rioja is Laguna Brava, a Ramsar site since 2003 that has been classified as a protected wetland and vicuña reserve. Currently, this refuge has more than 400 thousand hectares and is located on route 76, prior to the international passage.

Laguna Brava is a provincial reserve consisting of a complex system of saltwater and hypersaline lagoons, all with very little depth. In the area you can find pink and white flamingos besides its characteristic vicuñas.

    •         DIQUE DE LOS SAUCES

This famous Dique is located in the Quebrada de los Sauces. Although its main feature is the mountains that surround it, it gives us a movie landscape as well as the possibility to carry out different activities such as trekking or water sports.

As if that were not enough, the tour includes visits to La Piedrecita (a 500 year old church), and the Monument to the Tinkunaco (a provincial celebration of great importance). For more information about the event, you can consult our article on popular festivals in La Rioja.

    •         MIRANDA’S SLOPE

The famous Cuesta de Miranda is a stretch of Route 40, particularly winding, that crosses the passage between the Sierra de Sañogasta and the Sierra de Famatina, following the Old Inca road (between Chilecito and Villa Unión).

During the excursion to the Cuesta de Miranda, not only will you be able to walk the road and appreciate the beautiful landscape, but you can also do other activities at the arrival such as rappelling, zip line, trekking, climbing, bird watching and mining tourism.

    •         SANAGASTA AND THE DINOSAUR GEOLOGICAL PARK

Other interesting excursions include the visit to Las Padercitas, La Quebrada, La Villa Veraniega Sanagasta, Las Cuevas de Salamanca and Puerta de Huaco to reach the Geological Park of dinosaurs. There, a walk through the Red Valley begins through passageways and reddish formations. The climb of trails to the top of the walls guarantees a spectacular panoramic view.

It is called the Dinosaur Geological Park to this Red Valley due to the sediments of dinosaur eggs and plant fossils that were found from the Cretaceous Period.

These are, without a doubt, the must-see excursions in La Rioja. However, there are many more places to visit. Contact our travel specialists and request all the advice you need to put together your itinerary to this magnificent province of Argentina!
