Punta Loma Wolf with children, family fun!
Go to Punta Loma with kids. You will get to know the sea lions world on a short walk that you can combine with a swim in Playa Paraná or other excursions.

The fascinating views of the sea, the colony of Lobos Marinos and so many other species of coastal birds that the Lobería de Punta Loma gives us, makes this reserve one of the ideal destinations for a trip with children to the Patagonia Argentina. Nothing is more pleasant for the children than to be able to witness these little animals “sunbathing” on the beaches of this protected area.
A magical spectacle for the whole family, considering the large number of specimens that gather by the sea and, most importantly, it is suitable and safe for any age as the route for sea lions sighting does not require physical effort, nor does it pose any risk.
The faunal reserve of Punta Loma is traveled through a path that reveals the arid atmosphere of the Patagonian coast where guanacos, foxes, ñandúes, maras and copetones abound, being able to also appreciate the typical flora of the region.
There are interpretive signs along the way that lead to the viewpoint. The place is settled in a ravine with a privileged view of the New Gulf from where you can see the apostadero of one-haired sea lions and also the colony of cormorants.
Sea and land dwellers
Undoubtedly, it is the best opportunity to meet these inhabitants of the sea and the land. From the cliffs prepared as viewpoints, you and the kids will be able to observe colonies of adults and juveniles of this particular species of sea lions. Not that they have only one hair, though! They have been cataloged like this after having a single layer of hair.
Still, they’re the biggest. Just imagine: an adult male can weigh up to 350 kilos and measure 2 meters long! Females, on the other hand, do not exceed 200 kilograms. Meanwhile, the young ones are born weighing around 10 to 14 kilos. Not only is the size different, but also the appearance. Adult males have an extremely large head and neck and the hair in that area is longer than that of the rest of the body. It’s due to this that they’re known as “sea lions”.
Being able to see it so closely will be a real spectacle. Keep in mind that the Wolf of Punta Loma is a bettor during winter because we won’t be part of his life as a harem. However, we still can delight and enjoy by seeing part of their daily lives on the Patagonian coast. We might get to see black cormorants too if they have their nests there, which means they constantly fly to the place.
If you are left with your energies intact for another adventure, you can complement with a stop –on the way back– at Playa Paraná. This is another fantastic space of Patagonian nature for kids, teenagers and not so teenagers! You can run, bathe and enjoy the fresh air, so don’t forget the sunscreen.
Snorkeling or diving with sea lions
